There is a lot on this process already, and it is just going to get more complicated over the next weeks or so. The opening day of the trial was not as expected.

Over 200 people dialed the public call line screaming for nearly 20 minutes, as the court clerks tried to mute the callers.

According to a Verge report, most of the callers were kids screaming “free Fortnite” and “bring back Fortnite on mobile, please judge”. It was a chaotic mess, but later at 11:30 AM ET, the court officially managed to bring in orderliness.

Epic vs. Apple – Epic Games vs Apple

The battle between Epic Games vs. Apple is a current lawsuit filed by Epic Games against Apple in August 2020. It was brought to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, relating to Apple’s judgment in the iOS App Store.

Apple’s claim its decision was a result of Epic games making its own in-game purchase system that bypassed the App Store.

Epic Pays Extra for Fortnite on Sony

In the year 2018, Sony was under fire for its opposition to Fortnite cross-play, Epic Games worked to reach a solution. The solution was for Epic Games to pay an extra cut to make the game available to PlayStation.

Although it’s common for all platform holders involved to acquire a cut when Fortnite V-bucks are purchased, Sony reportedly has been getting quite others since 2018, per its contract with Epic Games.

Fortnite Epic Earnings

It’s not surprising that Fortnite performed well for Epic Games from 2018 to 2019. Through financial documents that were made public as a part of the trial. We saw that Epic Games earned over $9 billion in revenue from Fortnite within its first two years on the market.

It’s unclear what quantity of the company’s profits were attributed to Fortnite within that point. But Epic Games reported profits of $5.5 billion during that two-year span.

What’s clear is that Epic earned more from Fortnite than the other of its video game-related businesses from 2018 and 2019. And this includes the Epic Games Store, which is reportedly operating at a loss, per the documents.

Epic Fortnite Skins

Fortnite is widely known for its licensed character skins that are the thrust of the game’s revenue. Since its launch, we’ve seen character skins for God of War’s Kratos, Halo’s Master Chief, Batman, The Mandalorian, and more.

As a part of the trial, an enclosed document that outlined plans for Fortnite’s future was made public. And it features details about a basketball minigame and new character skins that are in the works.
