World Usability Design Challenge 2024
In 2024, The WUI Design Challenge invites the design community to showcase the tangible impacts of incorporating insights from user research and evaluation into detailed design decisions. Emphasizing user-centric design practices involves an in-depth exploration of target usage environments through research and assessing designs in practical settings. The call for submissions this year underscores the importance of exceptional user-focused design that aligns with the overarching theme of ‘Designing for a Better World.’
Entrants to the Design Challenge are expected to present compelling evidence of how user research and evaluation influenced significant design recommendations and choices, resulting in tangible positive outcomes for interactions, products, and services. This evidence should effectively communicate the value of research and evaluation in achieving impactful design results, making these connections understandable to a broad audience, including UN policymakers.

- The honored recipients of the WUI DC Awards, namely those awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze, will be warmly welcomed to participate in a distinguished session at the 2024 HCI International Conference.

Eligibility Criteria

- To win, entries should demonstrate how combining user research and evaluation of quality in use led to significant success in digital product or service development
Judging Criteria
The judging panel will assess each entry based on the following criteria:
- Quality of contextual/user research
- Quality of UX/outcomes evaluation
- The explicitness of connections between user-focused work and design decisions
- Quality of evidence for connections between user-focused work, design decisions, and outcomes.
