Fully funded by the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) in collaboration with the university, the program is designed to improve paediatric surgical outcomes in low-resource regions by training skilled professionals.

Successful fellows will spend 12 months at Kenyatta National Hospital, with rotations in other paediatric centres and access to world-class teaching resources. The scholarship includes tuition, accommodation, and living expenses, making it accessible to dedicated anaesthesiologists with limited means.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the WFSA Paediatric Anaesthesia Fellowships 2025/2026, applicants must:

  • Be a qualified physician anaesthesiologist.
  • Be a registered medical practitioner in their home country.
  • Be eligible for registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Be supported by their national anesthesiology society (must be a WFSA member society).
  • Be supported by their head of department or hospital management.
  • Plan to return to a recognised post in their home country, preferably in a teaching hospital.

  • On the page, click on the Nairobi Paediatrics Fellowship 2025/2026’ button for application
  • Then log in if you already have an account, or create one if you don’t have one and followthe  onscreen process.
  • Upload these documents:
    • Curriculum Vitae with recent passport photo and names of two referees.
    • A letter of recommendation from your national anaesthesiology society.
    • A letter of recommendation from your head of department/hospital management.
    • Copy of medical degree.
    • Copy of anaesthesiology qualification.
    • Copy of passport photo page.

  1. How to Apply via the University of Nairobi (UoN)

To complete your application with the University of Nairobi (UoN), you must submit the following documents through their official online application portal: https://application.uonbi.ac.ke/

Required Documents:

  • Completed online application form from the UoN website.
  • Certified copies of your undergraduate medical degree and anaesthesia specialization certificate (must be certified by the issuing university or institution).
  • Certified transcripts from both your undergraduate and anaesthesia degrees or fellowship program (certified by the awarding institution).
  • Verification of all non-Kenyan degrees and transcripts by the Kenya Commission for University Education (CUE).
  • Certified high school certificates, verified by either the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) or the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
  • A valid letter or certificate of good standing from your country’s medical licensing authority (equivalent to Kenya’s Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council).
  • Police clearance certificate from your country of residence (must be valid before your arrival in Kenya).
  • Official English translations for any documents not originally issued in English, translated by a recognized and certified translation service.
  • Proof of Yellow Fever vaccination.
  • Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination.

Important: The University of Nairobi has strict application requirements. Missing or incomplete documentation will result in automatic disqualification. Ensure all required documents are submitted in full and correctly certified.

The Department of Anaesthesia at UoN will support selected applicants in meeting regulatory requirements, but be aware that some of these processes (such as degree verification or translations) may involve personal expenses.

After Selection

  • Applicants chosen will be notified in July 2025.
  • Confirmation must be made within 2 days of notification, or the spot will be given to the next applicant.
