The New Google Drive Trash Policy – Why it’s important?

This change matches the policies of other Google products and services they offer including the Gmail. This feature will help ensure behavior is consistent and predictable for users across Google products. And will also help ensure that items users’ trash is actually deleted as expected.

Google CEO in a speech-making, quoted that; “data deletion changes affect items from any device or platform, and it didn’t mention there is no impact to Backup and Sync features”. Google Drive users are required to have updated to the latest version before the deadline. The New Google Drive Trash Policy is applicable to users on Android and iOS as well. Most users will be notified this week, alerting them about the changes to be made.

By default, a trash folder is created to remove and store files or content that are no longer useful. But there are cases and chances where users would feel the need to check all the data for some relevant files before deleting them altogether. This wasn’t changed on the new policy as Google also included a 30-day window before the auto-deletion.

Google Drive is a useful tool, especially during a pandemic when millions are working individually from their homes. You can entrust files with a live-view option, allowing multiple people to make changes to a document sent on the drive.
