The Canon Foundation Co-sponsored Research Fellowship 2027 offers a postdoctoral research opportunity at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy.<\/p>\n

About the Canon Foundation Co-sponsored Research Fellowship<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The fellowship supports early-career academics who want to undertake postdoctoral research at the European University Institute.<\/p>\n

The EUI’s Max Weber Programme is a postdoctoral programme covering fields within the Institute’s academic units, including Economics, History, Law, Political and Social Sciences, the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, and the Florence School of Transnational Governance.<\/p>\n

The programme is residential, meaning Fellows are expected to live in the Florence area and participate actively in the academic activities of the EUI.<\/p>\n

The Canon Foundation’s co-sponsored fellowship is specifically reserved for Japanese nationals or permanent residents of Japan. This is different from the general Max Weber Fellowship, which accepts applicants of any nationality.<\/p>\n

Benefits of the Fellowship<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u20ac2,500 Monthly Stipend<\/h4>\n

The current basic grant is \u20ac2,500 per month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Applicants who receive another salary or grant must disclose that income. Depending on the amount of additional income, the fellowship payment may be reduced, with the current minimum stated by the EUI being \u20ac1,750 per month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Research Expenses<\/h4>\n

Max Weber Fellows receive \u20ac1,500 per year<\/strong> for eligible research expenses, including expenses such as conference attendance.<\/p>\n

Fellows who are on the academic job market may also apply for up to \u20ac1,000<\/strong> for eligible job-interview expenses when those costs are not covered elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Family Allowance<\/h4>\n

Eligible Fellows may receive a household allowance of up to \u20ac310 per month<\/strong> if their partner lives with them in the Florence area and the partner’s income is below \u20ac2,000 per month.<\/p>\n

A dependent allowance of \u20ac210 per month for each dependent child<\/strong> may also be available when the child lives with the Fellow in Florence.<\/p>\n

Relevant supporting documents are required.<\/p>\n

Parental Leave<\/h4>\n

Fellows who have a child during the fellowship can receive up to four months of paid parental leave<\/strong>, with the fellowship extended accordingly.<\/p>\n

A Fellow who is expecting a child between receiving the award and the September start date may request to defer the fellowship for one year.<\/p>\n

Health Insurance<\/h4>\n

Max Weber Fellows are covered by the EUI’s basic medical plan provided by Cigna at the EUI’s expense.<\/p>\n

A Fellow may instead continue with an existing active insurance policy, provided that adequate coverage for the fellowship period can be demonstrated.<\/p>\n

Travel and Visa Support<\/h4>\n

The EUI provides reimbursement for the Fellow’s journey to Florence at the beginning of the fellowship and the return journey at the end.<\/p>\n

The combined maximum reimbursement for these trips is currently \u20ac1,200<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Visa fees can also be reimbursed up to \u20ac250<\/strong>. The EUI states that receipts are required for reimbursement.<\/p>\n

The EUI also assists non-EU Fellows with visa and residence requirements and can provide assistance for eligible non-EU family members.<\/p>\n
