The Internet Society Fellowship Program 2027 is designed for people working to improve the Internet in their communities and regions. The 10-month programme combines training, mentorship, practical project development, and opportunities to connect with Internet leaders worldwide.
The programme covers areas ranging from Internet policy and community mobilisation to connectivity, cybersecurity and online safety.
What Participants Will Work On
The programme is divided into three major tracks:
Internet Policy and Mobilization
This track includes Internet policy and community mobilisation.
Internet Connectivity
This focuses on areas such as peering, community networks and Internet infrastructure.
Internet Safety and Security
This includes systems security and online trust and safety.
Every selected Fellow is expected to develop and implement a practical project that addresses a real Internet-related challenge in their community, country, region or area of expertise.
What the Fellowship Provides
Selected Fellows can receive:
- A dedicated mentor.
- A project stipend of up to US$5,000, subject to submission and approval of the project budget.
- Travel support to attend a relevant global or regional Internet event.
- Access to a global network of Internet leaders.
- Access to the Internet Society Alumni Network.
- Leadership, project management, advocacy and communications training.
- Expert sessions related to the Fellow’s chosen track.
- The practical project is carried out over six months.
Who Can Apply?
The programme is looking for people who are locally rooted but understand wider Internet issues and want to create practical change.
Applicants must:
- Have strong English reading, speaking and writing skills.
- Have reliable Internet access and suitable equipment.
- Be able to dedicate at least four hours per week to the programme.
- Hold a valid passport that remains valid for at least six months beyond anticipated fellowship-related travel dates.
- Complete the required pre-fellowship training.
- Not be participating in the 2026 Internet Society Fellowship.
Applicants should also be able to develop a realistic project connected to one of the programme’s tracks.
How to Apply for the Internet Society Fellowship Program 2027
There is an important first step before submitting the actual fellowship application.
Step 1: Enrol in the Pre-Fellowship Training
Applicants must enrol in and complete all required training modules.
Step 2: Complete the training
The training must be completed by November 22, 2026.
Step 3: Receive the application link
Once completion is confirmed, eligible participants receive the fellowship application link by email.
Step 4: Submit the fellowship application
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis after applicants complete the training.

Applicants must complete the pre-fellowship training by November 22, 2026.
The final deadline to submit the fellowship application is December 18, 2026.
The fellowship itself begins with onboarding on February 22, 2027.
