About the Jean Monnet Fellowship

Up to 20 fellowships are offered each year. Also, during the fellowship, researchers work on an individual research project that should fit with one of the Centre’s research themes, programmes or projects.

This opportunity should not be confused with a PhD scholarship. The Jean Monnet Fellowship is a postdoctoral research fellowship for scholars who obtained their doctorate more than five years before the fellowship begins.

Who Is Eligible for Jean Monnet Fellowship?
The fellowship is intended for scholars who obtained their doctorate more than five years before the start of the fellowship.
For the 2027-2028 academic year, applicants must have obtained their PhD before September 1, 2022, and also Candidates of all nationalities can apply.
The fellowship is therefore aimed at postdoctoral scholars, academics and researchers rather than people who are still completing their PhD.
What Does the Jean Monnet Fellowship Cover?
The fellowship lasts for 12 months, from September to August.
Successful fellows are expected to live in the Florence area during the fellowship so that they can participate in the academic activities of the Robert Schuman Centre.
The fellowship also allows researchers to develop work that can eventually lead to an academic publication.
