The UM Holland-High Potential Scholarship is a combination of:

  • High Potential Scholarship, funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund, and
  • NL Scholarship, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in cooperation with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the UM Holland-High Potential Scholarship, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Nationality

  • Must be a national of a country outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Suriname.
  • Dual nationals of an EU/EEA country are not eligible.

Visa & Residence Permit

  • You must meet the requirements to obtain an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
  • If you already hold a residence permit for another Schengen country, it must be valid until at least 2 September 2025.

Admission

  • You must have applied for admission to one of the participating full-time master’s programmes at Maastricht University for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Academic Performance

  • You should have a GPA of 7.5 out of 10 or higher in your previous academic studies.
  • You must demonstrate excellent results through your latest academic transcripts.

Previous Education in the Netherlands

  • You should not have previously participated in a degree-seeking programme in the Netherlands. Students who have completed exchange programmes in the Netherlands are eligible to apply.

Age Limit

  • You must be 35 years of age or younger as of 1 September 2025.

Application Submission

  • You are allowed to submit only one application for the scholarship.
  • Make sure all required documents are ready and complete before submitting the application.

Selection Process

The Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship is highly competitive. Only 2% of applicants are awarded the scholarship each year, making it important for applicants to ensure that their applications are as strong and complete as possible.

  • Submit the Scholarship Application: After applying for the master’s programme, submit the scholarship application through the Maastricht University online system.

  • Scholarship Application Deadline: 1 February 2025.
