Applications for the 2024 Lorenzo Natali Prize are now open. Qualified Journalists are invited to submit their eligible stories by June 30, 2024, at 23:59 CEST. This competition is an excellent opportunity to share impactful journalism with a global audience.

Lorenzo Natali Prize 2024

The Lorenzo Natali Prize, established in 1992, celebrates outstanding journalism as the EU’s flagship journalism award. It honors Lorenzo Natali, former Vice-President of the European Commission, known for his commitment to European development policies.

Over the years, the Prize has highlighted stories on critical global issues such as climate change, digital infrastructure, gender equality, human development, employment, peace, governance, and human rights.

Prize Categories

  • Best Emerging Journalist Award: For journalists aged 18-25, published by a media outlet in eligible countries. This category also offers a unique training opportunity for the winner.
  • Investigative Journalism Award: For journalists uncovering serious issues like crime, injustice, corruption, or corporate misconduct, published by a media outlet in eligible countries.
  • Feature Journalism Award: For in-depth reporting on current events, situations, people, or groups, published by a media outlet in eligible countries. It covers innovations and solutions to current challenges.
  • Special Award – Photojournalism: For impactful visual storytelling through single photographs published by a media outlet in eligible countries.

Benefits of the Lorenzo Natali Prize

  • Each category winner receives EUR €10,000.
  • In addition to the funds available, the Best Emerging Journalist winner will receive a work experience placement or traineeship with a media partner.
  • Subsequently, Winners will be announced at the Lorenzo Natali Prize Award Ceremony in Brussels.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Entries can be in any language but must include a translation into English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, or German.
  • Submissions can be written articles, audio-visual content, or multimedia presentations.
  • Topics include climate, environment, energy, digital infrastructure, gender equality, human development, migration, peace, governance, sustainable growth, and youth.
