The Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS) program known for being outstanding and legit is a non-EEA/non-EFTA offers students the opportunity to enroll in a full-time master’s degree programme at Leiden University. Well, the host institution of the programme is Leiden University in the Netherlands.
However, before the scholarship is awarded, students who receive an LExS must adhere to and formally affirm their acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in the scholarship.
Scholarship Awards
With Leiden University, some awards are available after successfully applying and being accepted and they include;
The LExS is granted for the length of the course of study. Three different prize levels are available:
- € 10,000 of the tuition fee.
- € 15,000 of the tuition fee.
- Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee.
A complete scholarship is not what the LExS is. For their application for a student visa or residency permit, non-EEA LExS grantees still need to provide “proof of sufficient funds.”
Keep in mind that Leiden University only offers about 25 LExS scholarships, and more than a thousand students apply for this award every year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Research program prerequisites:
Candidates for every Master’s program at Leiden University, excluding;
- Those in the humanities
- Leiden Law School’s MSc and LLM (non-advanced) programs.
- Leiden Law School and the Faculty of Sciences will begin their study programs in February.
- Students who apply for the programs indicated below, for which there are no nationality requirements, may not be eligible for student finance through the Dutch government and must hold a non-EEA/non-EFA* passport.
- Every LLM Advanced Studies program
- Master of Science in Diplomacy and International Relations
- In order to be considered for a Master’s program, students must have demonstrated exceptional academic performance in their prior degree or programs. The fact that the student ranks in the top 10% of graduates from their prior program of study serves as an indication. Keep in mind that this information is only meant to show the degree of competition; verification of ranking is not necessary.
Application Steps/Instructions
Here are the steps you should follow to apply;
- Apply online to Leiden University’s Master’s program and, if required, pay the application cost.
- Keep in mind that creating and submitting an application for admission might take up to two days, so begin your application well in advance of the LExS deadline.
- Once your admission application has been submitted, go back to the Apply screen in your online application and select Scholarships. It will now appear in the scholarships area if you are qualified to apply for the LExS.
- You should know that you are either ineligible for the LExS or have not yet submitted your application for admission if you are unable to see it in your scholarships area.
- After indicating you, want to apply for the LExS, upload your letter of motivation.
- You must submit a 500-word PDF document outlining your reasons for wanting to be considered for the award.
- Apply for a scholarship before the LExS deadline. Please be advised that you are unable to edit your scholarship application online or by sending extra materials by email once it has been submitted.
- You must submit an LExS application and motivation letter with each online application for admission if you are enrolling for more than one study program or specialization and would want to apply for an LExS for each.
Deadline
1 Oct/1 Feb 2025 (Yearly).
Study in Netherlands and next course begins Feb/Sept 2025.
Well, scholarship applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. The student bears the responsibility of ensuring that their application for admission and their scholarship application are completed and submitted by the LExS deadline.
