The latest update added to Instagram came with a feature to help filter Abusive Direct messages. For quite some time now, Instagram has been working to provide some protection for all its users.

Recently, Instagram has been talking about how they can be working on abuse and hate speech on its platform by introducing more strict penalties for people who are making use of abusive Direct Messages. Now, the social network has announced a new way that they would protect their users from seeing abusive Direct messages, to start with.

Latest Instagram Feature to Filter Abusive Direct Messages

Instagram introduced the ability for you to stop someone that has been blocked from contacting you via a new account. As stated by the company, combating abuse is one of the major challenges, and there is one single step that you can take to get rid of it. since DMs are private conversations, Instagram does not proactively look at hate speech or bullying in those messages and it does on other content that is in the network.

Now, Instagram is bringing in some new tools that users can turn on to an automatic filter DM request that contains some offensive words, phrases, and emojis. This feature would get DM requests automatically filtered, and prevent users from having to see them again. This tool was designed to specifically work with the request of the DM that is where the most abusive messages are received typically rather than in the normal inbox for DM.

This new feature would work just like the way filters work. Users would be offered the ability to select the terms that they do not want to people to use, just as you can filter on the regular posts. Instagram would work with anti-discrimination and anti-bullying organizations in other to develop a list of some expensive terms that are being filtered from DM requests.

However, users get to create a list of words, phrases and emojis that they do not want to see in some messages. Some messages that violate those terms would be filtered automatically into a request folder that is hidden. If users open that folder, the message text would be covered, so that they do not have to read the offensive languages, but it can be tapped to uncover.

Instagram also possesses features that stop users that have been blocked already from contacting you again using a new account. That features would be available just with the next few weeks.
