The International Scholars Program at the University of British Columbia also called UBC offers students the opportunity to make a potential difference in the world and become scholars.

However, there are four categories of prestigious need and merit-based awards that the UBC Internation Scholars program offers, and once you can submit your application successfully you will be considered for any of the awards that you are eligible for. Well, these awards include;

  • Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award.
  • Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award.
  • International Impact Award.
  • Vantage One Excellence Award.

However, once you are been accepted you can get the chance to earn a globally recognized degree at the top university, study with the brightest students in the world, take advantage of unique learning opportunities, and finally access dedicated advising and support.

Benefits

If you apply for the International Scholars Program, you will not be considered for merit-based awards, including International Major Entrance Scholarships and Outstanding International Student Awards.

Eligibility for the Scholarship

  • You must have a Canadian study permit and be an international student intending to study in Canada.
  • You must be transferring from your first year at a post-secondary college or another university, or you must be coming to UBC from an accredited secondary school.
  • Prior to the academic year for which you are applying, you must have completed high school no earlier than one year. For instance, candidates for the Winter term of 2025 must have completed high school by November 2023 at the latest.
  • This has to be your first undergraduate application.
  • You must have exceptional academic performance.
  • You have to show that you have the kind of financial need that would otherwise keep you from going to UBC to get your degree. All overseas students are automatically considered for the Outstanding Overseas Student Awards and the merit-based International Major Entrance Scholarships by UBC.
  • You can apply for the International Scholars Program if these prizes are insufficient to pay for your tuition and essential living expenses.
  • You must fulfill the English Language Admission Standard as well as the general and degree-specific standards set forth by UBC.

How to Apply for the International Scholars Program

Well, you should know that applications are now being accepted for the 2025 academic year, and here are the steps to follow.

  • Go over the International Scholars Program application page.
  • Make a decision regarding the academic program and campus you wish to attend.
  • You need to submit a reference from an academic referee and be nominated by your school or non-profit in order to apply for the International Scholars Program.
  • Compile the necessary financial data, along with records of any awards and extracurricular activities.
  • Submit an application for the International Scholars Program by the deadline of November 15.
  • Send in your application for admission to UBC before the deadline of December 1.

Application Deadlines

November 15:

Your application for the International Scholars Program must have been turned in.

December 1:

Your online application for admission to UBC must have been filed. Only your first-choice degree will be taken into consideration for an International Scholars Program award, even though you can list two-degree options on your application.

January 31:

If you have applied to a Vantage One program and want to be considered for the Vantage One Excellence Award, you must meet UBC’s English Language Admission Standard for direct entry or UBC Vantage College’s English language requirement.

January 31:

Send in any paperwork needed to get admitted to UBC. Instead of the date listed in your “next steps” email, please submit by this deadline.

Mid-April:

If you have been selected for an award, you will be notified.
