Using your Apple ID
Ideally, you are expected to have linked your Apple ID to your user account during the setup process. With this, you would be able to reset your password in no time.
- Once you have entered the wrong password three times
- You would be requested to restart your computer in other to have access to the recovery options.
- After that, you would be asked to sign in using your Apple ID
- Choose the user account that you wish to reset the password for, and enter a new password.
Using Another Admin Account

The thing is that the person that set up the Mac has an admin account by default, and you can check it by logging in to your account and opening system preferences >users and groups, and viewing the list of user accounts on your Mac.
