The Assistant will both display and speak some sample requests. After the above steps, Assistant is active and configured on your mobile device. You can access it by just a tap on the app to launch it, at which point Assistant will start listening.

Add to Siri to Enable ‘Hey Siri, Hey Google’

Next, enable a Siri shortcut phrase that permits you to open the Google Assistant app with the phrase. There are two ways to enter this phrase. The first way to enter the phrase is to tap the Inbox icon within the lower right corner of the Google Assistant app.

Then tap Add to Siri button that is displayed. This step will open a screen that enables you to select your phrase. Tap the type Phrase button, then type Hey Google (or, if you like, Ok Google), and tap Done.

The other method is to open Settings, tap, Siri & Search, then tap on All Shortcuts. This process displays the Siri shortcuts you can access from all of your installed apps. Tap Hey Google, then tap your type Phrase button, then type either Hey Google or Ok Google, then tap Done.

You’ll see the Siri shortcut you created on a screen together with all of your other active Siri shortcuts. After adding these shortcuts, say “Hey Siri” followed by the phrase you typed. For instance, “Hey Siri, Ok Google” triggers your Siri shortcut. Siri displays OK, requested on your iPhone screen, then opens the Google Assistant app.

What To Ask Google Assistant on iPhone

In Google Assistant, either tap the microphone icon to speak to the app or tap the keyboard icon and enter your question. After you start the app with a spoken “Hey Siri, Ok Google” command, the Assistant listens for your request by default.

In the lower-left, tap the compass icon to check and search through possible Google Assistant actions. Or, you’ll simply ask Assistant, “What can Google Assistant do?” for an extended list of actions to explore.

Google Assistant also works with any Google Home devices you’ve got configured. From the Assistant app, you’ll control specific devices, or configure routines to trigger several actions directly with one command.

Open other Google apps, like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Maps, from within Google Assistant provided those apps reside on your iPhone. Ask Assistant to say recent news or weather, perform basic calculations, or play music.

Of course, Google Assistant excels at performing Google searches by voice. So sports scores, recipes, nearby restaurants, stores, or any search you would possibly typically type can instead be searched with a spoken request.
