GCSP Prize for Innovation in Global Security 2024 (Up to CHF 10,000  Worth Of Prize)

In 2015, as part of its Creativity and Innovation Initiative, the GCSP and its Geopolitics and Global Futures Programme introduced an award to acknowledge individuals or organizations that demonstrate innovative approaches to addressing global security challenges.

GCSP Prize for Innovation in Global Security 2024

This award aims to encompass various disciplines and fields, and its purpose is to promote and honor outstanding contributions to the advancement of sustainable global security through new approaches. A wide range of projects, such as technological advancements, conceptual innovations, original research, and grassroots initiatives, could qualify for consideration. 

Prize

  • The announcement of the winners (ranking first, second, and third) will be made publicly at a November 2024 event. The application that secures the first position will be awarded CHF 10,000 and a certificate of excellence. The other two finalist applications will receive a certificate of recognition.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The prize is granted to projects that contribute to global security and can be proposed by individuals, groups, or organizations from the private or public sectors.
  • Applications are open to any country, but the projects should go beyond national boundaries and demonstrate innovative approaches or new ideas in addressing global security challenges. Various types of projects, such as technological and conceptual innovations, original research, or grassroots initiatives, may be eligible.
  • The prize aims to encourage and acknowledge exceptional contributions to enhancing sustainable global security through novel approaches.
  • The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), as part of its Programme for Geopolitics and Global Futures, awards the prize under the Creativity and Innovation Initiative.
  • GCSP employees, staff members, and their family members are not eligible to participate in the prize competition.

Evaluation Criteria

The panel of judges will evaluate the submissions and choose the winners for first, second, and third place based on the following criteria:

  • Commitment to promoting sustainable global security.
  • Consideration for the preservation of human dignity, security, and justice.
  • Demonstration of creativity in the project.
  • Display of originality in the approach and ideas presented.

How To Apply

  • To be eligible for the prize, applicants must submit their applications through the designated online application form. The application should include the following:
  • A project abstract, limited to a maximum of 250 words.
  • A detailed project description, not exceeding 750 words.
  • If applicable, a description of the technical process involved in the project.
  • An estimated budget is required for the project.
  • An explanation of how the project contributes uniquely to the field of global security.
  • A description of the short-term and long-term impact the project will have in the field of global security.
  • Up to five image files can be included.
  • Applications that are not submitted through the designated channel will not be taken into consideration.
  • The applications are required to be written in the English language.
