FMxA Science by Woman Program 2024

The Science by Women program is designed to enhance the leadership of African women in scientific research and technology transfer, strengthening the capacities of research centers in their home countries.

The ultimate goal is to enable African women researchers to lead the continent’s transition to a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy, thereby transforming daily lives.

About the Science by Women Program

The Science by Women program promotes African women in scientific research and technology transfer to address challenges in health, agriculture, food security, water, energy, and climate change. It offers post-doctoral fellowships in collaboration with top Spanish Centers of Excellence.

The fellowship is designed to run for a duration of 6 continuous months, to be completed within 1.5 to 2 years from the announcement of the final selection.

Fellowship Benefits for Participants

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Round-trip flights from their city of origin to the host city.
  • A monthly stipend of €2600 gross, subject to a 24% tax, for accommodation, personal expenses, and health and emergency insurance.
  • Coverage of visa fees and related administrative costs.
  • Potential financial aid for seminars or conferences in Spain, pending evaluation.

Note: Beneficiaries must arrange their own accommodation for the 6-month stay.

Eligibility Criteria for FMxA Science by Woman Program 2024

Applicants must:

  • Be women with African nationality and residency.
  • Hold a PhD in a scientific field.
  • Be employed by a university or research organization in Africa.
  • Have an excellent academic record and significant research experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English, with proof positively evaluated.
  • Not have been previous beneficiaries of this program.

Application

  • Candidates who meet the aforementioned eligibility requirements should submit their applications in English through the Science by Women microsite at mujeresporafrica.es.
  • Only one application per person is allowed, with all the below listed required documents.
  • Applicants can propose research projects to up to three different host research entities.

Applications must include:

  • A motivation letter (max. 1 page).A full CV, preferably in Europass format.
  • A passport or ID document.
  • A letter of support.
  • A concise research proposal (max. 2 pages).
  • Proof of confirmation of the research proposal by the chosen Spanish host entity.
  • A completed online form.

Application Deadline

Applications must be submitted by September 30, 2024, at 23:59 (Madrid time). Late submissions will not be considered.

What are the Residency Requirements for Africans living abroad?

Applicants must reside in an African country; those living abroad are not eligible.

Am a beneficiary of the previous edition, can I apply?

Past recipients of the Science by Women fellowship cannot reapply, but previous Learn Africa scholarship recipients can.

What if I miss some of the documents required, can I apply for the scholarship?

All required documents must be included; incomplete applications are not accepted.
