The Fitch Group and Social Shifters have joined forces to launch the Global Education Challenge 2024, a pioneering initiative aimed at empowering young people (ages 18-30) to develop innovative solutions that enhance access to free and high-quality education worldwide.
The Global Education Challenge offers participants the opportunity to compete for grant funding of up to $10,000 USD, alongside comprehensive support to bring their ideas to fruition and the chance to be featured among some of the world’s leading brands.
Overview of the Global Education Challenge
The Global Education Challenge is on the lookout for groundbreaking ideas, projects, and business solutions that can improve access to free and high-quality education for all. This initiative places particular emphasis on solutions that:
- Widen access to basic mathematics and literacy skills.
- Promote financial inclusion through education.
- Deliver education to remote and rural communities.
- Eliminate gender disparities in education.
The goal is to find lasting solutions that can be scaled and replicated across different regions, thereby making a substantial impact on global education.
The Education Challenge
Access to education is a fundamental human right that facilitates socio-economic mobility and provides an escape route from poverty. Despite this, over 240 million children and young people are currently out of school, and approximately 70% of 10-year-olds cannot comprehend simple written text.
The education sector is in crisis, plagued by high rates of poverty, exclusion, and gender inequality. These challenges have only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted severe inequities in education access and quality.
Additionally, factors such as violence, armed conflict, disasters, and the erosion of women’s rights have further undermined educational security. In this context, the need to reimagine and revitalize education is more urgent than ever.

Eligibility Criteria
- The Social Shifters Global Innovation Challenge is open to young people (ages 18-30)
- Candidates are welcome from anywhere in the world
- They must be eager to tackle social and environmental issues affecting their communities.
- The program specifically targets individuals or teams with ideas or projects in the early stages of development. However, social entrepreneurs and businesses at more advanced stages of their startup journey (those already delivering impactful services or products), are also encouraged to apply.

The application process includes access to various forms of support, including live networking sessions and one-on-one coaching for finalist projects.
