The Destination Australia Scholarship, now available at the University of Queensland (UQ), offers financial support for international students pursuing a master’s degree in Australia.
Established in 1909, UQ is a renowned public institution in Brisbane and is one of Australia’s prestigious “sandstone universities.” The university consistently ranks among the world’s top 50 universities, delivering a high-quality education and fostering cutting-edge research.
The scholarship is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Education and is awarded throughout the duration of the recipient’s study. A key objective of this initiative is to encourage international students to study in regional Australia, thus supporting the growth of regional tertiary education providers and enriching the overall academic experience.
Applications for the 2024/2025 academic year are currently open to international students globally who wish to pursue postgraduate education in Australia.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Destination Australia Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Nationality: Be an international student.
- Visa Requirement: Hold a student visa for the duration of the scholarship.
- Fresh Entrants: Be a new student at UQ.
- Program and Campus: Hold an offer for a master’s program offered at the UQ Gatton campus in 2024 and be willing to study full-time.
- UQ Alumni: Alumni commencing a different program (e.g., pursuing a master’s after a bachelor’s) are eligible.
- Socioeconomic Status: We prioritize students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Special Circumstances: We consider students facing unique challenges or hardships.
Eligible Programs
The Destination Australia Scholarship is available for the following postgraduate programs beginning in 2025:
- Master of Agribusiness
- Master of Agricultural Science
- Master of Animal Science
Scholarship Benefits
Recipients of the Destination Australia Scholarship will receive AUD $15,000 per year. Totaling AUD $30,000 over two years for a standard master’s program.
