About the Fellowship The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists invites applications for the Dag Hammarskjöld Journalism Fellowships 2025, an exclusive opportunity for career print, television, radio, or internet journalists from developing nations.

The fellowship allows selected journalists to cover the United Nations General Assembly for approximately 10-12 weeks, gaining firsthand experience of U.N. deliberations and global diplomatic processes.
Fellowship Overview
Selected fellows will have the opportunity to:
- Observe and report on U.N. working sessions, press conferences, and high-level interviews.
- Engage with international media colleagues to gain insights into global journalism challenges.

- Visit prominent New York media organizations and institutions supporting journalism.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Nationality: Must be from a developing nation in Africa, Asia (including Pacific Island countries), or Latin America/the Caribbean.
- Age: Must be between 25 and 35 years old.
- Employment: Must be employed as a print, television, radio, or web journalist by a recognized media organization.
- Freelance Journalists: Eligible if they provide letters from at least three (3) publications willing to accept reports from the U.N.
- Work Samples: Must submit published work no earlier than 2022.
- Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in English, as it is a primary language at the U.N.
- Passport & Visa: Must have a valid passport and be eligible for an I-1 journalist visa from a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
- Exclusions: Journalism students and journalists from European countries (unless reporting for their home country) are not eligible.

- Completed Online Application Form.
- Work Samples: At least three (3) published samples from 2022 or later. If not in English, a summary translation must be included.
- Letter of Endorsement: From the applicant’s media organization, confirming:
- Approval for a paid leave of absence during the fellowship.
- Agreement to publish or broadcast reports from the U.N.
- Contact information for verification.
- Personal Statement: A 500-word statement detailing how the fellowship will enhance the applicant’s understanding of international diplomacy and U.N. issues.
- Copy of Current Passport.
- Two Letters of Reference: From individuals familiar with the applicant’s journalistic abilities and professional potential.
