The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is now accepting applications for the Leadership for Africa (LfA) Master’s Scholarship Programme 2025/2026.

This scholarship is designed to empower young people from South Sudan and Uganda, including qualified refugees, to pursue their Master’s studies in Germany.
The goal of this program is to help shape future leaders who can positively impact their home countries and communities.
Through this scholarship, students will get the chance to advance their education in Germany and gain skills that will contribute to development and peacebuilding efforts in Africa.

Who Can Apply?
The DAAD LfA scholarship is open to two main groups:
Refugees in South Sudan or Uganda
Applicants must meet these conditions:
- Must have refugee status granted before April 2, 2024.
- Refugee status should be valid until at least April 2026.
- The country of asylum must be South Sudan or Uganda.
- Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree.
- Must have proof of refugee identification.
Graduates from South Sudan or Uganda
Applicants must meet these conditions:
- Must be a citizen of South Sudan or Uganda.
- Must live in South Sudan or Uganda.
- Must have finished a Bachelor’s degree.
- Degree must meet German university admission requirements.
- A Second Class Upper Division or higher in their Bachelor’s degree.
- No more than six years should have passed since earning the degree.
- Must have good English or German language skills.
Important Note: If you studied Medicine, you can only apply for Master’s programs in Public Health or Biomedical Sciences. Fields like Medicine, Nursing, Law, Veterinary Medicine, Architecture, and Fine Arts are not eligible for this scholarship.
Scholarship Benefits
If selected, the DAAD scholarship will cover:
- A German Language Course (up to 6 months) in Germany before your Master’s studies begin.
- Full tuition fees at a public or recognized university in Germany.
- Monthly living allowance of 992 Euros.
- Health, accident, and personal liability insurance.
- Travel allowance to and from Germany.
- A yearly study allowance.
- If applicable, a monthly rent subsidy.
- If applicable, a family allowance for spouse and/or children.
Note: Family reunification may take time or might not be possible during the scholarship period, due to visa processing in some countries.
What You Can Study
This scholarship allows you to study a wide range of Master’s degree programs in Germany. However, it does not fund the following fields:
- Medicine
- Dentistry
- Nursing & Midwifery
- Veterinary Medicine
- Law
- Fine Arts
- Architecture
- Other healthcare-related fields

Check Eligibility: Make sure you meet all the conditions under either the refugee or national graduate category.
Prepare Your Documents
You will need:
- Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts
- Proof of refugee status (for refugees)
- Proof of nationality and residence (for graduates)
- Language proficiency certificate (English or German)
- Motivation letter
- Updated CV
- Any other required documents

Go to the official DAAD scholarship portal and fill out the application form.
Upload All Required Documents
Make sure your documents are correctly scanned and complete.
Submit Before the Deadline
The application closes on June 10, 2025. Late applications will not be accepted.
