Overview of the CECIL Renaud Overseas Scholarship
The CECIL Renaud Overseas Scholarship programme is granted annually to one or two eligible students, with funding provided for a maximum of two years for post-graduate study. This studies include Master’s degrees or PhD programs, at any Institution/university choosen by the student in the United Kingdom.
Since its inception in 1994, the scholarship has supported 38 exceptional individuals in realizing their academic and professional aspirations.
Eligibility Criteria for CECIL Renaud Overseas Scholarship
Prospective Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements stated below, in order to be considered eligible for the CECIL Renaud Overseas Scholarship:
- Academic Excellence: Applicants should have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, including obtaining undergraduate or Honours degrees with distinction, as well as receiving Dean’s Commendations and Certificates of Merit or their equivalents.
- Impactful Contributions: The scholarship seeks candidates who exhibit the potential to make a significant impact in their chosen field of study and contribute positively to society.
- Secondary Schooling in KwaZulu-Natal: Applicants must have completed a significant portion of their secondary education in KwaZulu-Natal and be under the age of 27 at the time of application.
- Current or Completed Studies in South Africa: The scholarship is open to postgraduate students who have completed or are currently pursuing Honours degrees or four-year undergraduate degrees at South African universities.
- Demonstrated Leadership and Commitment: Successful candidates will have a track record of involvement in extracurricular activities, demonstrating leadership, commitment, and a passion for uplifting South Africa.

The CECIL Renaud Overseas Scholarship does not restrict applicants to specific fields of study. Former scholars have pursued diverse areas of interest, ranging from Development Studies and Applied Theology to Mathematics and Singing.
