After Sony Threatens To Take Legal Actions, Dbrand Pull Its Darkplated PS5s from Sale

At first, when the customization company announced the sales of darkplated PS5s, it baited the tech company to sue. Dbrand started selling darkplated PS5s and when it did, they baited Sony into suing them. The darkplated PS5s looked exactly like what you think, making the sides of your PS5s black instead of the traditional white.

The darkplated PS5s have been on sale for quite some time now, but as of Saturday, you cannot get them anymore on the Dbrand website. The company had removed them from sale after they received a cease and desist letter from the tech company, Sony. If you visit the Dbrand website at the moment, you will only find a list of articles and not the darkplated PS5.

Sony’s Letter to Dbrand

In a letter shared with the tech news website, the verge by Dbrand, Sony pointed out some grievances including issues related to how the faceplates looked exactly like Sony’s interactive entertainment-protected product design and also with Dbrand’s versions of the PlayStation icons. The customization company, Dbrand confirmed that the letter was issued earlier this year, but however, they did not provide information regarding the exact time as to when they received the letter.

In the letter, Sony requested that Dbrand “promptly and permanently cease and take down all marketing and promotion for and cease all sales worldwide of faceplates featuring the product configuration of SIE’s PS5 faceplates or any similar product configuration, including without limitation all faceplates currently at dbrand.com.”

Dbrand’s Reply to Sony

The branding and customization company however does not seems to be agreeing with a permanent cease and desist but it did say that it will comply for now. In an official 1,666 word post on the company’s subreddit, it said “we have elected to submit to the terrorist’s demands….for now.” There were lots of harsh words contained in the post and the company even concluded with “talk soon,” meaning that it has got other plans in mind.

This is not the first time the tech giant, Sony, is threatening to take legal actions against a company over PS5 side plates. A company onetime that started out as PlateStation5 changed its name to CustomizeMyPlates. The company even went on to cancel and refund orders after Sony allegedly threatened to take legal actions back in November reports VGC. The company however has returned in January and has started selling its custom plates again.

Why There Is a High Rise for Darkplated PS5s

There is a market for darkplated PS5s and the reason for this is that it is not too hard to take them off a PS5. Sony even showed users how to do it in the official teardown of the console video. The ease of taking off the PS5 plates has made it easier to get to the inner workings of the console. You can now buy dual sense controllers in black and red color and also a black pulse 3D audio headset is set to be released soon.
