Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the Cooke and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship must meet these requirements:

Admission Requirements:

  • Unconditional admission to study full-time in the PhD, Master of Criminology (MCrim) (Research), or Master of Laws (LLM) (Research) at the Sydney Law School.

Academic Background:

  • Hold one of the following qualifications in Law:
  • An Honours degree (first or second class or higher) or equivalent
  • A Master’s degree obtained through research
  • A Master’s degree with honours or outstanding coursework that includes a research component of 25% of a full-time academic year
  • A law degree combined with research or relevant professional experience equivalent to a first-class honours degree.

Preference:

  • Preference is given to first-year students, although current MCrim by Research or LLM by Research students enrolled in a full-time PhD program may also be considered if they show outstanding research progress.

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship provides a stipend of $50,000 per year for up to 3.5 years for postgraduate research students in the Faculty of Law.

Application Process

  • Admission Application: Submit an application for a postgraduate research law course at the University of Sydney.
  • Automatic Consideration: Students meeting the scholarship requirements are automatically considered for the scholarship once their program application is complete. No additional scholarship application is needed.
