AAUW International Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for AAUW International Fellowships for graduate and postgraduate students, applicants must meet the criteria below:

  • He/she must not be a U.S. citizen. Those residing in U.S. must hold a non-immigrant visa
  • Applicants must have obtained a bachelor’s degree (equivalent to that of the U.S.), completed by the deadline below.
  • Plan to dedicate themselves full-time to their proposed academic work during the fellowship year.
  • Intend to return to their home country to pursue a professional career after completing their studies.
  • Be proficient in English and verify this proficiency by submitting the required components.
  • Master’s/first professional degree and doctoral applicants must have applied to an accredited institution by November 15, 2024, and must specify the institution in their fellowship application.

Additional specific requirements include:

  • Master’s/First Professional Degree Fellowships: These are for master’s or professional degree-level programs such as J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch., or medical degrees like M.D., D.D.S., etc. Programs like certificates, associate degrees, and undergraduate degrees are not eligible.
  • Doctoral Fellowships: These are for doctorate degrees classified as research degrees, such as Ph.D.
  • Applicants for doctoral Awards must provide proof of their doctorate degree, and hold a research degree or an M.F.A. by the deadline. The place of research must also be indicated.
