The ODA Global Innovation Fellowships 2024 edition is currently open for applications! Supported by the British Academy, this fellowship provides early- and mid-career researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
With opportunities to enhance their skills, networks, and careers by embedding themselves in various sectors, including creative, cultural, public, private, and policy sectors.
The aim is to address significant challenges requiring innovative solutions and to foster knowledge mobilization and translation beyond academia. Fellows will get to develop their skills and establish networks, and careers across various sectors, including creative and cultural, public, private, and policy sectors.
ODA Global Innovation Fellowships 2024 – Details
Through the ODA Global Innovation Fellowships, researchers in the SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities, and the Arts for People and the Economy) community will receive the needed support to establish a new and stronger connection beyond academia. This will promote knowledge mobilization and translation, as well as individual skills development.
This is the first call for this ODA strand of the programme, offering opportunities for award holders to embed themselves with a partner organization. The partner organization must be based in one of the following countries: Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Türkiye, or any country from the list of Least Developed Countries.
Awards for ODA Global Innovation Fellowships
These fellowships provide up to £150,000 for a duration of 12 months, with 80% Full Economic Costing covered.
Eligibility Criteria for ODA Global Innovation Fellowships 2024
- Funding from the International Science Partnerships Fund is provided by Official Development Assistance (ODA), thus applications must meet ODA eligibility criteria.
- Proposals are welcome in the following areas: Environment, Sustainability & Nature Transformative Technologies Health & Wellbeing Cities & Urbanisation Global Order, Geopolitics, and International Affairs
- Eligible activities and outputs may include, but are not limited to, evidence notes, data analysis, case studies, briefings, blogs, podcasts, videos, and other media.
- We will not forward applications that are not considered ODA-eligible for assessment.
Application Process
You are to:
- Register in the British Academy’s online Flexi-Grant system on https://britishacademy.flexigrant.com/ This will enable them to process and assess their application.
- The Fellowships will kick-start in September 2025, but fellows can enroll earlier (March or April 2025) if they manage their relocation on a faster timeline.
- Submit applications for ODA Global Innovation Fellowships in English.

Selection
The selection committee will choose successful candidates based on the quality and interest of their proposed activities and outputs.
Award-holders are expected to promote the approaches and methods that their award focuses. On and to consider the potential for engagement between academic and non-academic environments.
