This fully funded scholarship program targets outstanding graduates and final-year students aspiring to pursue a PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), Social Science & Humanities (SSH), and Computing & Information Sciences (CIS) disciplines.

The application window for the August 2025 and January 2026 intakes will be open from October 1 to December 31, 2024. Applicants to the National Institute of Education (NIE) should apply directly through NIE’s website during the same period.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to all nationalities, with priority given to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents.
  • Applicants must hold or be on track to achieve a First Class Honours degree or equivalent at the bachelor’s level.
  • Ongoing students must provide official documentation confirming their trajectory towards a First Class Honours degree.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Recipients are not obligated to work in Singapore after graduation.
  • Duration: Initially awarded for one year, renewable annually for up to four years based on satisfactory academic progress.

Monthly Stipend:

  • Singapore Citizens: S$4,000
  • Singapore Permanent Residents: S$3,800
  • International Students: S$3,500

Enhanced Stipends for STEM and CIS Fields:

  • STEM: S$6,700 (Citizens/PR), S$6,500 (International)
  • CIS: S$6,300 (Citizens/PR), S$6,100 (International)
  • Non-CIS: S$6,000 (Citizens/PR), S$5,800 (International)

Additional Allowances:

  • Conference: Up to S$4,000 per year
  • Book: S$500 annually
  • IT: One-time S$1,500 for computer purchase
  • Thesis: One-time S$600 in the final year

For international students, if English was the medium of instruction in previous studies, a waiver letter from the home university can be obtained. Otherwise, valid GRE/GMAT scores are required for non-graduates of Singapore Autonomous Universities, unless specified otherwise by the School.

The NPGS is exclusively for PhD programs and does not extend to Master’s degrees.

  1. Will physical certificates be offered to certify the awarding of the NPGS to the awardees?

Physical certificates are not issued. Successful candidates receive an official NPGS award letter after a final university-level interview.

  1. When will results be announced?

Results are typically released 3 to 6 weeks after individual interviews.
