Programme Details

The TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme is designed for young scientists from developing countries who are pursuing a PhD in chemical and biological sciences.

The fellowship is tenable at ICCBS in Karachi, Pakistan, and covers various fields including organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine, pharmacology, physical chemistry, and analytical chemistry.

Applicants must be registered PhD students in their home country (the sandwich option) to be eligible. The fellowship duration ranges from a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 12 months, as agreed upon with ICCBS.

ICCBS provides a monthly stipend to cover living costs such as food, accommodation, local transportation, and incidental minor illness. The stipend is not convertible into foreign currency. The language of instruction is English.​

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be nationals of a developing country (excluding Pakistan).​
  • Be under the age of 35 by 31 December of the application year.​
  • Hold a Master’s degree in a field of natural sciences.​
  • Be registered PhD students in their home country and provide the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from their home university.​
  • Not holding any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Pakistan or any developed country.​
  • Provide a certificate of good health from a qualified medical doctor.​
  • Provide an official Preliminary Acceptance Letter from ICCBS. Requests for acceptance must be directed to the Director of ICCBS (visit the website to get the email), who will facilitate the assignment of a host supervisor. Applicants must accompany their request with a copy of their CV, a research proposal outline, and two reference letters.​
  • Provide evidence of proficiency in English if the medium of education was not English. Candidates are encouraged to refer to the following resources to test their level of English:​

  • Provide evidence that they will return to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.​
  • Do not take up other assignments during the period of the fellowship.​

Applicants are encouraged to apply for the preliminary acceptance letter as early as possible, even before the opening date of the call. Only acceptance letters dated the same year as the year of application are eligible.​
