The Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand is currently accepting applications for the prestigious Kahurangi Māori Student Scholarship 2024.
The Kahurangi Māori Student Scholarship Award aims to recognize and support Māori students who have demonstrated academic excellence and active engagement in their communities and cultural contexts.
Scholarship Overview
To maintain the Kahurangi Māori Student Scholarship in the second and third years, students must be enrolled full-time and maintain good academic progress.
Payments for accommodation are made in two installments, in February and July. If the scholarship is directed towards tuition fees, the amount is credited to the student’s fee account upon receiving the first invoice.
For students qualifying for Fees Free, the scholarship is paid as a stipend for living costs, distributed in two installments per year.
Benefits
- The scholarship offers up to $30,000 over three years. For the first year, it covers full accommodation costs at a university hall of residence, with options including the Marino Floor in Joan Stevens Hall, which is dedicated to tāuira Māori (Māori students) wanting to live and learn within their own Tikanga.
- Additionally, recipients receive $5,000 towards tuition fees for the second and third years of study.
- Alternatively, students who do not opt for university accommodation can receive a $5,000 fee contribution in each of the three years. If the student qualifies for Fees Free, a stipend is provided instead of the fee contribution for that year.

To be eligible, applicants must:
