The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS) is a partially funded program designed to support outstanding international students pursuing a master’s degree at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Scholarship Highlights
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be international students from non-EEA/EFTA countries.
- Must have applied for a master’s program at Leiden University.
- Demonstrated academic excellence and leadership potential.
- Submission of a compelling motivation letter (max. 500 words).
- Active involvement in extracurricular activities is advantageous.
Scholarship Benefits:
Partial tuition fee coverage in one of three categories:
- €10,000 of the tuition fee.
- €15,000 of the tuition fee.
- Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee.
Academic support services and opportunities to network with professionals and peers.
Tuition Fees:
- Non-EU/EEA students pay €21,800 annually.
- Proof of sufficient funds for a student visa is required.
Application Process
- Apply for Admission: Submit an online application for a master’s program at Leiden University, Pay the application fee if applicable.
- Scholarship Application: After admission, access the “Scholarships” section in your application portal, Upload a motivation letter (max. 500 words) explaining why you qualify for LexS, Submit a separate LExS application for each study program if applying to multiple specializations.
- Deadlines: February 1, 2025: For programs starting in September 2025. Late applications are not considered.
Key Notes
- Only 25 scholarships are awarded annually.
- The scholarship does not fully cover living expenses; students must demonstrate additional financial means for a student visa/residence permit.
